Tarte Grav3yardgirl Swamp Queen Eye & Cheek Palette review

I think by now, those who have been following me for a while, know how much I like Grav3yardgirl. This palette was in my wishlist from the moment I saw it. I liked the design, colours, and I was sure of the quality too. High end brands, like Tarte, usually know what they are doing when it comes to that.

In this post we are going to take a closer look at the palette and do some swatches.

In the palette there are nine eyeshadows and three cheek colours. The palette has a large mirror inside and the construction is quite sturdy. That makes for a perfect palette to take on a trip. In one palette you have four different product types and a mirror, plus a brush.

The colours are fabulous. They are well pigmented, long lasting, and easily worked with. The formula is buttery and soft. I can blend them out without any effort. All the colours in the palette match with each other, which gives a lot of options for different combinations. The eyeshadows don’t crease and stay on all day.

Also, did I mention that the palette has a scent like a vanilla cupcake? I haven’t tasted it, but it smells delicious!

The package itself has a thick, soft-finish cardboard top that has the image of an alligator with wings. Despite of the cardboard cover, the package is sturdy. It feels like it will endure some travelling and won’t break so easily.

The palette includes following shades:

Here you can see the swatches (I swear, it looks so much better in reality than on the pictures):

  • #SFS (rose gold)
  • natural peaches (peachy nude)
  • dogman (burnt sienna)

  • big baby (cream)
  • sassy bun (copper peach)
  • sippy sippy (glittery brown)

  • haunting (lavender)
  • uncommon (purple slate)
  • mancat (deep plum)

  • sweet tea (bronzer)
  • gator wings (highlighter)
  • does this thing really work? (blush)

Big baby is an excellent shade for a transition and creating a base for all the other tones.

My favourite and most used colours are big baby, haunting, uncommon, and mancat. With those colours I can create a subtle smokey eye for daytime.

I haven’t gotten the bronzer to work for me. I suspect that for my skin tone it is a tad too warm a shade. Other than that, the rest of the shades are great and I don’t have anything negative to say about them.

  1. I got this when it was first released. It was sold out almost everywhere but one of the Ulta’s in my area had it. I wasn’t going to get it initially but the shades Haunting & Uncommon drew me in. I agree the bronzer it way too warm/orangey but it works fine as an eyeshadow.

      • Some of the shimmer shades are too glittery for my taste but I don’t use those ones often. I feel this palette is only a must-have if you’re a fan of Bunny.
